    The OPC DA agent forms the interface between a configurable OPC DA server and the Alarm Control Center. The OPC DA agent connects to the OPC DA server and cyclically queries the values of OPC items.     For the configuration of the OPC DA agent, the OPC items to be checked are defined together with a condition. If this condition occurs or if this condition is violated, the agent generates a corresponding message and forwards it to the Alarm Control Center. The ACC then begins the alerting process and informs the specified group of recipients.

    The alarm status of a message can also be reported back to the OPC server by the OPC DA agent.

    For the configuration of the OPC DA agent, the OPC items to be checked are defined together with a condition. If this condition occurs or if this condition is violated, the agent generates a corresponding message and forwards it to the Alarm Control Center. The ACC then begins the alerting process and informs the specified group of recipients.

    The alarm status of a message can also be reported back to the OPC server by the OPC DA agent.

    Querying OPC items

    The OPC items are queried by the OPC server after a defined time interval. Both the current value and the previous value are taken from the OPC DA Agents cached for subsequent evaluations.

    The following OPC items are queried:

    • Items from which messages are to be triggered in connection with a condition
    • Items used to monitor the devices connected to the OPC server, such as programmable logic controllers

    Querying OPC items

    The OPC items are queried by the OPC server after a defined time interval. Both the current value and the previous value are taken from the OPC DA Agents cached for subsequent evaluations.

    The following OPC items are queried:

    • Items from which messages are to be triggered in connection with a condition
    • Items used to monitor the devices connected to the OPC server, such as programmable logic controllers

    Generating messages by conditions

    The OPC DA agent cyclically checks whether the value of an OPC item has changed and thus fulfills a condition that should result in the triggering of a message. Here it is possible to evaluate a single bit of an OPC item or, alternatively, to look at the entire value of an integer OPC item.

    • Device function test: It is tested whether a device connected to the OPC server is functional. This is the case when the value of an OPC item has changed since the last read process. If the value has not changed, the device connected to the OPC DA server is considered non-functional.
    • Control system availability: It is checked whether the control system is functional and correctly connected to the ACC.
    • Message load compliance: It is checked whether the specified maximum message load is adhered to. The message load is exceeded when the agent cannot process messages fast enough and messages build up in the agent's queue.
    • Connection check: It is tested whether there is a working connection between the agent and the OPC DA server.
